Wow, you're in Baltimore! Me too and I never knew! I love your blog, but now I feel even more of a connection. You could be working right down the street from me all this time and we could have been chatting it up, BSC-style. Almost through with the prequel!
I know I am coming extremely late to this blog but I am going through the archives and I have to say it's awsome! I LOVED the BSC from aged 10-12 but then felt I was too grown up and stopped after about 50 books. I have since regularly regreted this and now aged 25 am e-baying like crazy (mum gave my collection to little cousins - grrr) to get the whole lot to read and then stick safety in the attic for future generations. Loving how you also thought it was crazy that Elizabeth and Watson had to have a quick wedding rather then just move in together and that you also thought that they weren't napping on the cruise ship (I even thought that when I was 10 - I was like NOOOO Karen don't go back for your earplugs you'll be scarred for life).
I am British and it really annoys me that they "translated" the books for English kids; it is SO unecessary when we a bombarded with American TV and movies here so there isn't much we couldn't understand, they even changed the building blocks logo to the roof thingy; here are some examples of the "translations" that drove me made and sounded so wrong in the dialog spoken by American teenagers:
mom -> mum principal -> head/headmaster elementary school -> infant/junior school station wagon -> estate I guess -> I suppose (rediculous!) Ding Dongs, Twinkies, Hersheys etc. -> Mars bar, Smarties, M&Ms, cakes Chips -> chips
They did take that bit about Mallory saying the people at Disney World looks retarded out too!
I wish I could afford the shipping to order all the American versions!
Oh my God, DON'T LAUGH but I felt emotional upon hearing about the BSC members' adult lives!! I thought they would be stupid forever, I'm so proud that they joined the real world! Ha ha, and great pic Tiff!
God, I miss your blog Tiff (and your excellent humour!). Will have to console myself by re reading this blog for the 5th time... i love the way you never fail to call these girls out on their shit. Love it! Fantastic picture of you by the way, can't wait to hear about this other project you have going on.... you are sorely missed around here
Oh and to the British reader, who commented on the stupid changes in the books. I'm from New Zealand, and we had them too, but only in random titles - so it left kids really confused... it was so so dumb, but then these books weren't exactly fantastic literature by any standards.

I just wanted to let you know that I found your blog last week and have read it in its entirety. I LOVE it. Thank you for refreshing my memory on one of my absolute favorite series when I was growing up. I laughed aloud many times (actually to the point that my sister thought I was losing my mind...). Again, thank you so much. I wish I had thought of this blog idea myself, as it's absolutely brilliant and so fun.
Gotta say it as well: loved the bog and read it all in one sitting-- tonight! I just finished and mannnnnn, do I have a stiff neck from reading intensely for so long in the same po- sish! Thanks for this- it's GREAT and I only wish you'd kept going-- or you'd come back! I'm 35 and these books ( and a shit ton of stuff you've referenced here) were pivotal in my 10-11-12 year old life!
Thia is bugging me. I just re-read one of the early books - I think the 1st Mallory book, but I could be wrong - and it said that all the Pikes (including Mallory) have BROWN hair. What happened?

I just read this today! I didn't know about this blog, but I totally used to rock the BSC when I was in elementary school.
I don't know how I feel about the BSC using cell phones and texting and all that schmutz, either. I'd rather read the originals, thanks.
